WELCOME TO SPORTSWORLD MOTUEKA
As one of the largest locally owned sports stores in the Top of
the South, we offer you an enormous range of sports and outdoor
equipment at competitive prices.
Talk with us about anything from mouth guards to netball shoes
or outfitting for your trip into any of the three local national
parks.
Owner Martin and our staff Tony, Rachel and Nigel not only offer
the best brands and service but also something completely free
LOCAL KNOWLEDGE!
Each of us is happy to pass on our knowledge and experience to
help make your activity the most rewarding it can be helping
you to get out there and do it.
After many years in the corporate world, owner Martin bought Motueka
Sportsworld in 2003. Despite the demands of running a successful
business, he still finds time for trout fishing, tramping in the
Abel Tasman and Kahurangi National parks with his two sons, and
family camping around the Nelson region. Having completed an Open
Water diving course, he now explores the underwater world and enjoys
snow skiing and social tennis with wife Susanna.
Tony has worked at Motueka Sportsworld for 20 years so has
immense knowledge! A keen competitive squash player, Tony re-strings
all types of racquets. He is a qualified diver, a qualified Aqualung
service technician for regulators and BCDs and a keen fisherman
as well as an experienced water skier and wake boarder. Talk with
him about our reel repair service along with some vague directions
to spot X for those big summer snapper. Tony has also represented
Motueka in golf and ten-pin bowling.
Rachel has worked with us for 5 years and she and husband Ben enjoy
weekends fishing in their boat around Golden Bay and the Marlborough
Sounds. As a keen and experienced tramper with Ben throughout the
Nelson and West Coast area, she is a great source of knowledge about
the local National Parks or further afield. Rachel also enjoys mountain
biking and road cycling and to keep fit (!) also pops into the local
gym each morning. Ask her about the finest crayfish dipping sauce
recipe known!
Nigel, the newest member of the team, is our firearms specialist
being involved with firearms at an early age on the family
farm in England. Some of his notable hunting successes have been
a 12 point Red Stag shot in the Abel Tasman National Park, two hunting
trips to Stewart Island and hunting in Indiana, USA. Nigel has shot
a large variety of rifle calibres and hunted extensively in the
Nelson Lakes and North West Nelson regions. He has been reloading
ammunition for many years and brings a vast knowledge of this science
to Motueka Sportsworld.
Nigels interest in Black Powder shooting has seen him represent
New Zealand at World Championships three times and his interest
in shooting Matchlock and Flintlock muskets remain passions today.
As a spin off, he has also collected firearms and at one stage owned
an original Boutet (crafted by Napoleons gun maker). He is
also involved in historical re-enactments such as Trafalgar 200
and Omaka events. He has also served on the Mountain Safety Council
for over 25 years.
An impressive range of talents, knowledge and experience thats
yours for the asking. So come in ask!
